Reinforcement of the breakwater using ground anchors.
An approach to resilient structures! Proposals from SE for earthquake and tsunami countermeasures.
In this document, SE is proposing the reinforcement of breakwaters using ground anchors as a measure against earthquakes and tsunamis in its environmental disaster prevention projects. The Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, caused significant damage due to tsunamis. Coastal structures of breakwaters that did not anticipate external forces from tsunamis experienced major deformations such as toppling and washing away. On the other hand, breakwaters that demonstrated resilience, even when deformed by wave forces, contributed significantly to disaster reduction by delaying the arrival time of tsunamis to urban areas. Based on these experiences, breakwaters are required to have resilient structures, and our breakwater reinforcement anchor method is introduced as a reference technology in the "Guidelines for Tsunami Resistance Design of Breakwaters."
